Sirilio on Jerusalem Talmud

16th-century Rabbi Solomon Sirilio wrote one of the first running commentaries on the Jerusalem Talmud, primarily on sections without corresponding tractates in the Babylonian Talmud. Rabbi Sirilio decided to write his commentary after seeing marginal notes by a Salonican rabbi on the order of Moed (Holidays) of the Jerusalem Talmud. He noted that the text of Zeraim (Agriculture) was difficult and lacked commentary and that there were few experts on the Jerusalem Talmud. His style echoes that of Rashi in that he offers clear explanations and often uses his native Spanish to define words. The commentary often seeks to resolve contradictions between the two Talmuds and to determine practical law.
